Hip Resurfacing Surgery

Two orthopedic physicians in San Diego, California told me in 1998 that I needed a THR immediately on my right side.

I continued to work after that initial visit in San Diego, as my discomfort was not so bad that I needed immediate surgery and I am glad I waited. Now, eight years later, I have found my way to Dr. Malhan at the Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai. Finding Dr. Malhan and Wockhardt was a process that began eight years ago.

I had been studying articles and web sites about the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing device and technique. This procedure appeared to me to be a much more advanced and thoughtful procedure compared to traditional THR. Back in 1998 BHRS was not available in the United States and today I believe it is only available there through very expensive clinical trial surgeons with little experience in the procedure.

Beginning in 2004 I was having difficulty sleeping at night as moving in bed often caused pain that woke me from sleep. I begin looking in earnest for a surgeon experienced with the Hip Resurfacing procedure.

I was referred by the BHRS device manufacturer in the UK to another surgeon in Thailand. But, I discovered he had only done twelve of the procedures (with good results) with his team. I asked him where he learned about the technique. He mentioned Dr. Malhan.

When I went to the Internet I found a lot of information about Dr. Malhan and Wockhardt Hospital. It appeared he had the facility and the experience I was looking for to perform a hip resurfacing for me. I contacted Wockhardt’s international department and was given complete information on the hospital and availability. Shortly thereafter, I made an appointment with Dr. Malhan to have the surgery performed.

I have found Wockhardt Hospital and Dr. Malhan have met all of my expectations related to my surgery. Recovering rapidly I am looking forward to resuming my life as a Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Kayaking guide/instructor.

I will recommend anyone to Dr. Malhan and the Wockhardt hospital that is searching for experienced, professional medical care.
